  1. Proper/Legal Steps To Take Before Your Book Is Sent Out For Editing.

    • Here are the steps that I used as a self-published author. If anyone else chose a different path, feel free to respond.

Before sending your work to reviewers, send a copy to the US Copyright Office. Keep a copy of your copyright application and use mail tracking services to know the day that the package arrived. The Copyright does not protect the idea or concept. The Copyright protects the original work of authorship on a fixed medium. In other words, no one should be able to copy your work verbatim and use it without your permission.

After confirming your financial agreement with the Editor, send a hard copy to the Editor. Request that your work not be shared or duplicated. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the Editor’s convenience.
