Upon meeting new people you have the opportunity to learn about them and their businesses and to share information about you and your book. The order in which this is done is very important. First seek to know the other person and their business by asking their name and what they do. Second, try to determine if you can assist them or know of someone who can assist them. Third, share information about you and your book. This can be done effectively in two minutes.
When people ask, “What do you do?” this is your opportunity to share that you are a published author or are currently writing a book. More than 80% of the time, people will ask the title. If you happen to have a copy on hand, now is the opportunity to share it.
On Tuesday of this week, I had the opportunity to network with a lively and interesting group of individuals at a Networking Works meeting. These meetings are held weekly throughout Gwinnett County, Georgia. These entrepreneurs are exceptional at giving one to two minute introductions.
One of the most effective and memorable introductions was given by a rapping Mary Kay Lady who refers to “hips… lips… eyes… and thighs”.
During this meeting I was asked to give a 7 minute presentation.
I decided to speak on the topic…
“MYTHS ABOUT MATH…The first myth is ‘Girls CANNOT Do Math’ ”
If you would like to know what the other myths are, join us on your lunch break …
